Network Printer goes offline without prompting for credentials after an AD user password change on a workstation which is part of a workgroup

Dear Gurus,

We have noticed the following behavior for network printers:

  • We have a workstation running Windows as OS (Windows 7 or higher) which is part of a workgroup
  • We have a network printer which is managed by a Windows Server integrated to an AD domain - Only domain users have access to it
  • A user can successfully install the network printer - He will prompted for his domain credentials to be able to install it
  • This works properly until the user changes his AD account password. The printer goes offline without displaying any error message that the end user can see or prompting for credentials
  • The printers works again if re-install of we run the CMD command Start \\Server\Printer

We would like to avoid running scripts especially that this workstation is not managed (We have thousands of users like that) and have a fix so that the user can be prompted for credentials next time he changes his AD credentials.

Is there a way to force that from the server side?
