Hello All,
We set up a non-domain print server for our SAP integration. We have several printers all being shared. When we go to add a printer on a workstation or terminal server through add a printer and choose network we can bring up list through typing in \\servername\. When we use windows explorer it says we can not access. How can we allow them to browse printers through windows explorer? This will be done from domain and non domain accounts.
-File and printer sharing is on
-Windows firewall is off
- Guest account is on
Hi All,
Would like to ask about one of our shared printers. We have 8 printers connected to the network and shared from a 2008 R2 server.
Only since yesterday, this particular printer won't print. The server receives the job and has assigned to the designated printer. The job has "printing" as status, but nothing comes out of this printer. This happens until the printer status itself goes to offline and the job errors out - printer still physically online.
Restarted the printer and the job pushes thru. After a couple of minutes, another print job gets stuck in the queue for the same machine. Same status, same situation. Restarted the machine again and it prints. Odd thing, the server is able to see the printer as ping requests are received and replied to.
I've already did a cold reset on the machine. Connected my laptop to it via USB and cross-cable which resulted in successful printouts all the time. Even removed the printer from the server and reinstalled fresh. It prints during the first time then stops afterwards.
Even a test print from the server itself gets stuck. Got this entry on eventviewer for the test page:
"Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 2250. This network connection does not exist."
The connection DOES EXIST as the server is able to ping the machine.
For the offline status of the machine, I read somewhere that I need to uncheck SNMP. I did and it was back online, however, the print issue continues.
Any ideas as to what might suddenly cause this?So I'm trying to enable IPP printing so that various anonymous guests on our wireless network can use one of the office printers that we currently have. Server is 2008 R2, and most printers are HPs. Regular printing works fine.
I've got IPP working over port 80 on both Win7 and OSX Clients. This was done via connecting to <a href="http:///printers/<printername>/.printer">http://<IPaddress>/printers/<printername>/.printer
Windows was done via the add printer wizard and entering this into the shared printer by name.
OSX was done via using the "advanced" option and then manually selecting the http IIP protocol.
So my question is - how do I get it to work over the standard port of 631? This is mainly so that macs don't need the extra steps, I wish I could just use the "IPP" dialogue box by default. Also, most windows instructions state to use":631" as part of the IP string, so I'm curious on why it doesn't work.
I couldn't find any configuration requirements, other than adding the role to the server. Any ideas?
I am doing printer migration from a W2K8 server to anther W2K8 server.
I know how to do it, but having a small confusion.
Is it necessary to install printer drivers on new server, where printers will be imported? Consider, both server have same architecture and OS.
Hello,
I have two issues with a print server I have. We just preformed a fleet replacement of copiers and the new ones all "support" WSD ports however this appears to be causing issues. Sometimes a copier will just refuse to print from its share as the job errors out, in addition some of the devices do not clear jobs from the queue so they print but sit in a "sent to printer" status until deleted manually.
On recommendation of our Toshiba technical rep I installed Kb 2906850 even though we do not change the default permissions. This did not fix the issue. I also changed the driver isolation settings from the default of system to none. This did not resolve the issue. The driver is the Toshiba universal driver 2 version 7.131.345 dated 5/28/14.
Does anyone have any ideas?
When conected in a remote desktop section with the Windows Server 2008, all the printing work from oulook, words, and explorer are send to the printer very slow and all it prints is garbage.
Hi All, I have been using a print server for years now, which are all stored on a 2k3 server.
I have been reading that IT shops are moving away from print servers and connecting users directly to the shared printer. My network has about 150 users and about 15 shared printers.
Anyone have some thoughts on this? Is the trend to move away from print servers? Are there benefits of not using them? ANy downside to connecting users directly to the printer?

I've read the relevant threads, and no one seems to be having my exact problem.
The server is a 64-bit 2008 server with the print role installed. I can add x64 drivers fine, but when trying to add x86 drivers, I get stuck. I have tried several HP printers: LJ2300, 4100, 2420.
Here's the procedure:
Under the Drivers area of Print Management, right click, Add Driver.
Click Next.
Select only x86 architecture.
Choose Have Disk.
Browse to the location of the extracted x86 driver for the printer.
Select printer from list (in this case LJ2420)
Click Next.
Windows prompts with the following:
Install Components from Windows Media
Please provide path to Windows media (x86 processor).
Type the path where the file is located and click OK.
It appears to be looking for ntprint.inf. I have tried several OS installation CDs - Server 2003, XP, Vista. None of them are accepted.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Hi Frieands,
We have a problem. We have been using Windows Server 2008. Printer installed on Windows Server can't be used after we locked OS (windows button + L). Is there a solution in group policy or in something else to enable printer when PC is locked.
Please give a hand ASAP:
Thanks and Regards,
Serdar
Hi,
we have a problem with our print environment (HP and Ricoh printers).
We have some Windows 8 and 8.1 clients and a Windows Server 2008 R2 printserver.
Windows 8 and 8.1 is showing the printers as offline. Its seems the problem described here ->http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2713128
We already installed the fix on the server but this didn't resolve the issue.
Maybe somebody have the same issues and an alternate solution for this?
Best regardsA little background first, I work for a company with 10+ sites while only 2 sites actually are in a domain. Everyday I am getting work orders for adding a ip printers to every machine because they want to print to any printer within their location. I understand the print services within windows server 2008 and how I can deploy them easily through group policy. The problem is the majority do not have the domain infrastructure to do this.
Which leads me to my question of, how and what would be the most painless way of deploying printers to all computers in particular subnets between sites? Create a batch file to add the printers and run it on the each workstation? Create a network share for printers? or it is possible to force adding a new printer over the network without a group policy. Thank you all in advance
Hello all,
For example If I have a wireless SSID called XYZ..
At the same time I am using a file and printing services in one server , i.e. in windows server 2008 r2 ..
Can I create automatic link to the printer for all users who are connecting to XYZ wireless SSID ..
i.e.
I connected to XYZ wireless , and when I checked device and printers I found a printer that is installed in the file and printing server...
Can I do that in windows server ??
Looking forward for your response ..
regards,
We are in the process of migrating from print server 2003 to 2008 and have an existing .bat file that has commands to combine a few hundred .spl files into a single .spl before releasing it to the print queue. This script was a simple COPY command and an lpr in 2003.
We replaced the COPY command with a FOR %I IN (D:\*.spl) DO TYPE %I>> D:\WHOLE.spl
The files are now all appended into a single file, however, we are unable to submit it successfully to a print queue via 2008 R2, almost like the file format is not supported for printing.
This approach works well with 2003, however.
Are you aware of any workarounds for such a situation?
Thanks!
Hello,
I have a brand new Windows 2012 R2 server installed and the FAX service keeps crashing when sending or receiving faxes. I have tried with two different modems, reinstalled the role and other suggestions available on this forum to no avail.
The Event Viewer ID is 7034 : The Fax service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 3 time(s).
Any sugestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

Summary: Fax and Scan does not appear in the start menu on a terminal server with desktop experience installed. Any ideas why?
I am running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise as terminal server for about a dozen users. I would like to enable them to use the fax server capability of our Windows SBS 2003 server. From what I can tell, they can access the fax server using the Fax and Scan software on server 2008. All of the documentation I've read says that when I enable the "Windows Desktop Experience" feature on Server 2008, the Fax and Scan software should appear in the Start Menu. It's not there. I have un-installed and re-installed Desktop Experience, but still no Fax and Scan. From what I can see in the documentation, I don't need to install the fax server role to get the software, just the desktop experience feature.
Is is possible that fax and scan and/or other features of desktop experience are disabled when terminal services are enabled? Is there something else I'm missing?
Thanks,
Lee

Hi,
I need to push out some new default printer settings (mono and duplex) for 300 printers across about 12 x 2003/2008 print servers. All of these devices are already mapped by around 2500 WinXP/7 users, so reconnecting the devices for everybody is not an option, nor is redeploying via GPO. I've read the following thread, which appears to explain what I need to do:
Firstly, I need the latest version of setprinter.exe, as the one I've got is date stamped April 2003, which I assume is the one that fails to work with devmode 9. Does anybody know where I can get this from?
Secondly, I think it says that the clients will periodically update themselves with the server's default settings. This is perfect, if correct. However, would anybody please be able to explain when these periodic updates take place?
Many thanks in advance !
Andy
