A customer of mine have a problem that they can't print PDF files on a terminal server, other files/document can be print without any problems. After a restart of the print spooler it's working to print PDF files but a moment later the problem is back again.
The reader they have installed is Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. When we send PDF files to the printer Event Viewer is giving a PrintService message that the print is send correct as a job was sent through the print processor winprint on printer ... no errors in
Event Viewer and no pdf printed.. :(
1. Printers are mapped via group policy
2. Print spooler shows as running
3. No error in event log.
4. Doesn't always happen.
The customer is working on 3 terminal servers installed with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (64-bit)
Any idea how to solve this or have any experience with this issue?
Can't print PDF files, only a few minutes after restart print spooler
2008 R2 Jobs stay as "Sent to Printer" even after installing Printer Isolation hot fix
Hi.
We have installed Fix474721 to address the issue of print job occasionally remaining in print queue with status of sent to printer and the issue is still occurring.
The up to date .~Net framework is in place.
Do you have any further suggestions or info on whether there is a supplementary fix for this issue?
p.s. We have also tried taking the driver out of isolation mode which has made matters worse.
this issue is present on 4 separate print server.
Thanks, Ian Newman

system32 spool printers folder
Hi all, is it safe to delete the entire contents of the following folder?
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS
My users seem to be having lots of printing issues, the printers simply stop printing at random times. I have noticed the above folder has loads of SPL and SHD files.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Print spooler failing to PC by hostname, but working by IP
Hi,
I have a periodic issue with a 2008R2 server. It has an application running on it that prints to user's printers from the server side.
To access the printers the application uses UNC paths.
Every few weeks we run into a problem where the printers from one or two PCs are inaccessible. Trying to browse to \\computername\sharename gives an error: "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation failed with error 0x00000002"
The server can access printers shared from other PCs just fine. Other PCs or servers can access the shares that our server cannot access just fine.
The really odd thing is that while \\computername\sharename will give the error above but browsing \\IPadress\sharename will pop open that printer's spooler just fine.
ipconfig /flushdns has no impact and we can ping the PC just fine.
We can access shared folders off the PC in question no problem.
Restarting the PC has no effect, but restarting the print spooler on the server resolves the problem every time.
Any suggestions, or logging we should turn on, because right now I'm stumped

can not delete tcp/ip printer port when deleting the printer on windows 2008 server
When I'm deleting a printer with an tcp/ip printer port assigned on a windows 2008 server the printer is deleted but not the port.
When I try to manually delete the port I get the message "the requested resource is in use".
In the overview of the ports there is no printer using this port so I'm assuming the port isn't in use any more.
What am I missing here?
Thanks for the help.

Printers use duplex for single page documents
Here are our environment: Windows 2008 print server with lots of HP different HP printers, using UPD. Clients are running Windows 7 x64.
We configure duplex printing by default for ecologic matters. When a single page document is printed, the printer use duplex also; after the page has been printer, it takes the paper back to "print" the blank side of the single page document!
Are we missing something hidden in the printer configuration? Or isn't the driver/printer smart enough to single-side printing when duplex is enabled and only one side need printing?
Best regards
How to remove 2012r2 from domain when dcpromo, doesn't work properlyTha ?
Hi,
We were going to install a new 2012 r2 server, but the changes MS made to printing are unacceptable to our school.
We are going with 2008, which we know works well.
The server removed itself from the domain yet it still shows up as a domain controller in active directory.
How do we remove the dead server from AD so we can reinstall for 2008?
Thanks..
Can't remove printers that were installed via "Deploy with Group Policy"
Our printers are all added using the Print Management MMC, by right-clicking and choosing "Deploy with Group Policy".
But what I have found is, the printers cannot be removed from a client. Even if I'm logged in as a Domain Admin, I still get the error message "access denied".
How can I remove printers that were deployed using Print Management?
How to share a usb scan
G‘day All,
I have a canon MG 2500 printer&scan. I check this device unsupported the WSD feature.
Now, i use the usb of a device(canon MG 2500) to link my windows 2012 R2 server.
I try to install the Distributed Scan Server feature to share the printer&scaner, the other computers in the same domain can discover the printer ,however the scan cannot be searched.
Then,i check the "Scan Management", there is no scanner in the local scanner server.
My questions are that:
1.A usb scaner (All in one device and unsupported the WSD feature) could be shared using the Win2012 R2 Platform ?
2.If not ,what have other replaced approaches to implement it ?
Print Operators local built-in group on a server
I am trying to better secure our servers, and I was hoping to use the security groups that are built in to Windows 2008 servers. One in particular that looked promising is this Print Operators group. Basically what I want is for the Print Operators group to be able to add and remove printers, examine/pause and cancel all jobs in the print queue, and also to be able to start/stop/restart the print spooler on the server.
When I add a test user to this group in order to try out the functionality, however, the user is unable to do any of this. The description of the group says "members can administer domain printers" and yet the user can't do anything. What the heck is the point of this group? More importantly, how can I actually change it to allow the functionality that I am looking for? The big one is being able to start/stop the print spoolers, but I would really like to be able to do all of the aforementioned tasks.
Thanks for your time and consideration. Hopefully someone can help me out.

Printer property changes
Good morning, we have a need to track log ins and changes to printers in a print server.
Say we have a Windows 2008 R2 server with print queues consisting of 45 networked printers. Someone logs in and picks one printer only. Then he/she opens the property tab and changes the printer from Black and White settings to Colour. Or could change the port properties from LPR to 9100 HP type.
In other words, we want to know who might have done changes to any printer’s property at any time that may cause problems later. This could happen inadvertently or on purpose.
Anyone has got any ideas ?
Thanks !
Printer driver was not installed 'Element not found'
I am trying to install printer drivers on two Windows 2012R2 servers and I am getting the error: Printer driver was not installed 'Element not found'. In the setupapi.dev.log file it shows '
Class installer: failed(0x00000490)!
Error 1168: Element not found
I have tried using the pnputil to add the driver, but nothing has worked.
Spool stuck after printing...We have to restart print spooler to clear printer queue
Setting Printer Security on All printers on the print server
Hello,
I have been asked to set permissions on all the printers on the print server. As there are about 100 or so on there and we have 4 print servers. I have found I could use SetPrinter.exe but that seems to overwrite the current permissions. I am after adding 2 or 3 groups into each printer (the same 2 or 3 groups) and granting them full control over the printers as they are admin groups.
Does anyone know how this can be done?
Many Thanks

How let end users install Network Printers by themselves?
This small office of less than 15 folks have a Windows Server 2012 R2 license and the workstations run of Windows 7 and 8.x on a AD/Domain environment.
Since this office do not have a resident IT support person, we need to let them install the Multi Functional Network Printers at the office premises by themselves.
I remember there is a way to create those Printer Install under a Share Folder in the Server and the users do have only to click on the PRINTERS and it will start Installation without asking any details or Printer Drivers etc.
Any help here is much appreciated.
Cheers !
Restrict printer queue from becoming default
Hi,
We have a Win 7/Server 2013/Off 365 environment.
Currently we are implementing a Managed Print Service with a FollowYou print solution.
FollowYou means, you print into a common queue, walk up to a printer, authenticate yourself at the printer (usually with a rfid badge) and get your print outs.
One advantage is that you are able to send several docs to the printer and fetch them all at once without browsing through all the sheets in the output bin. Another advantage: if the chosen printer is busy or defective you can just walk up to the nearest device and fetch your print outs there.
Most users walk up to the printer and complain that they have to wait until the documents are printed. Before they came to the device and the docs were already there.
So we would like to give them the opportunity to print out large documents over a direct queue, the way they did it before.
Problem you quickly see that the users set this queue as "default" and so a lot of benefits of the concept get lost.
Pls don't let us discuss about the sens of the concept.
My question is:
Is it possible to avoid that users set one specuial queue as default?
