Event 315 error 2114

On a Win7/64 with an Hp Laserjet P2055DN network printer, I get event 315 error 2114 (The print spooler failed to share printer Printername with shared resource name Printername . Error 2114. The printer cannot be used by others on the network) on almost every startup. The printer works fine, both from the Win7 machine and a McBook  wireless connected to my wired/wireless Linksys WRT160N Router. Printer driver is up to date, nothing stuck in print queue, all permission for sharing turned on. Again, printer prints fine, but I keep getting the event and error message in Admin on startup. In Experts Exchange, in the server 2008 section here, I read this: http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/Windows_Server_2008/Q_26250085.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+10+2114+30+315+error+event . If it was a bug, MS would have fixed this by now, yes?. Any ideas why I keep getting the event message? Clearly the machine tries to engage the spooler, fails, tires again and succeeds, leaving behind the event message. Thank you.

OS: Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 + hotfixes.

It appears the printer subsystem is broken as Windows is unable to install any driver from any vendor.  All attempts result in HRESULT 0x8000ffff.  For example:

If I attempt to install a driver through Printer Management, the following errors are always thrown.  Yes, I've tried both HP and Xerox so it's not a vendor specific issue:

I've attempted to purge all vendor files from C:\Windows\System32\spool\.  Remove all vendor entries from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print.  Currently there doesn't appear to be any left over vendor files/entries laying around.

Shame the Microsoft Fixit for Printing tool doesn't work on Windows 7.

I've also tried the Microsoft FixIt Pro - printing troubleshooter, but it was unable to find any real problems.

Thoughts on why everything is failing?

Presenting Multiple Lists of Printers from a Single Print Server

$

I support two campuses, each with their own printers hosted on two different print servers.  Both servers and all printers and users are in a single AD.  Originally the two print servers were created to limit the number of printers presented to a user browsing to http:\\printserver\printers.  Rights are not a concern as users occasionally print from one campus to a printer in the other campus.  The goal with two print servers was merely to shorten the lists of printers displayed to each campus.

Is it possible to present the two campuses their separate lists of printers, but from just one print server?  It's easy enough to move all the queues to one printer server, but is there a way to present two lists of printers using two different URLs from the same server?

In standalone server all spool are residing in c drive. Can any expert let me know how to solve this!!

PrintBrm.exe - Migrating printers from Server 2008 R2 to 2012 R2

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to migrate our printers from a Windows Server 2008 R2 to a brand new Windows Server 2012 R2. While doing this, we also want to switch the drivers to a newer version. As I successfully tried this a year before with the PrintBrm.exe (but from Server 2008 R2 to another Server 2008 R2), I choosed this tool again.

Unfortunately it fails at some point this time. The printer export and import succeeds every time, but if I'm trying to print a testpage on the new server, it won't stop printing hyroglyphs... Only if I install a printer manually (same driver), it works fine.

Do you have any solutions or ideas for that? For better troubleshooting, I attached an image of one failed testpage and the code I've written, too. Looking forward for some ideas.

Best regards, Andreas

Print document's name in Event Log ID #307 on Server 2012

Creating a new printer server using Windows Server 2012.  Everything is working out fine so far, however I just ran into one problem that didn't happen in our Server 2008R2 print server.

When looking at print jobs that have completed under:  event logs --> Microsoft --> Windows --> PrintService --Operational, I have noticed that Event ID 307 is not displaying the printed document's name in Server 2012 (it did for Server 2008R2).  In Server 2012, the document name simply displays as "Print Document" instead of displaying the document's name.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the document's name to properly display in the event logs?

Thanks for any help.

Server 2012 Event 307 - Printed Document Name

I created a printer monitoring system that pulls events from the event logs of a server and then compiles this information into reports.  I can tell how many pages printed per printer for a period of time, I can tell what users are my highest printers and once in awhile for some reason I would actually review what was printed.

I use this data to determine when another printer is needed or not needed.  I used the printed document name to justify not replacing a $5000 color laser printer. because they printed personal stuff more than business.

This process worked great until I installed Windows Server 2012, and I have tested this on Windows 8 and have the same result. (I only care about the server though.  ;) )

In the event log: Microsoft-Windows-PrintService/Operational

In server 2003, event 10: Had printed document name

Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2: Had printed document name.

Why is this no longer there, or was this an oversight?

I asked this at TechEd and there was not a Microsoft person there who could answer my question and they referred me to the forums.  Can someone tell me what I can do to turn this on, was this an oversight, bug, etc.

Hello

I need to disable printer preferences, so users can't change the output tray and colour settings.

Please advise if it's possible to do this.

Print spooler seems to have problem processing RAW print jobs on FILE printer queues

$

My C# 32 bit application is having a problem with RAW print jobs on FILE printers on ‘Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit’ using the GDI API. It can generate the print job but the print server seems to have a problem with the job. This same program works OK on Windows XP.

When I suspend the printer and run the program to generate a print job the print job appears in the printer queue. The status is blank; no apparent problem yet, the C# program has by this point terminated with no errors.

When I resume the FILE printer the status reports ‘Error – Printing’, it did not prompt for the file name in which to write the print data.

I have not seen any events logged for this, in particular PrintService events – “Applications & Services / Microsoft / Windows / PrintService” – is empty even though I have configured ‘Information notifications’ in the Print Server Properties window.

Trying the same program but using the ‘Microsoft XPS document writer’ has similar symptoms, there is no prompt for a file name, but in this case the print job just vanishes.

Any assistance in determining the problem here would be really appreciated.

Adding an HP network printer and receiving 0x000005b3 error

Hi All,
a user has a windows 7 Enterprise and this machine is joint to a domain. I tried to add an HP universal printing PS (v5.2) printer which is a network printer and it gives me 0x000005b3 error.

What I've done so far?
- Removed all the existing printers
- Installed the driver manually.
- tried to add this printer under local admin rights.
- tried Administrator account.
- Windows is up to date and there is no missing drivers.
- Other people are using this printer with no problem. This user is the only one having problem.
- This user is able to add/print on other printers with no pain!

The strange part is when Windows tries to add the network printer. so it means printer is known for windows and OS tries to get the driver from Windows 2008 R2 Printer Server. Wizard finds the printer and starts to download the printer's driver. Then it says"Windows cannot connect to the printer."
Once again:
PC: Dell 980
OS: Windows 7 Enterprise
Printer: hp universal printing PS (v5.2)
Server: Windows 2008 R2

Any comment/suggestion is appropriated.

Is there a way to get back the old list of all Printers that are mounted in 2003 server, on a 2012 server? I've heard through the grapevine there may be a questionable registry hack.

Updating a Universal Print Driver Server 2012?

$

Hello,

I have a Server 2012 setup with Print Managment, I have about 200 Printers all using the Ricoh Universal PCL6 driver.  I need to update the driver to the newest Version, which means all 200 Printers will be updated at once.

What is the best and correct procedure to update them all? So far i've been disabling the NIC and updating one of the Printers which causes all the other ones to update.  Then after that i turn the NIC back on.  Turning off NIC so people can't lock a file and the driver dosn't talk to each and every printer to make the update faster.

Is there a wizard or something to make it better and easier without loosing any custom settings?

Thank you,

Unable to receive fax on server 2012 r2, sending faxes is not a problem

$

Hello,

I am running a server installed with 2012 r2, fully updated, connected with a 56K USB controller dial-up External Faxmodem with Voice, downloaded the newest driver for 2012.

Added the role: Fax server with all the components.
Configured the fax server settings.
Configured the Modem area code.
Adjusted the Microsoft Fax and Scan settings.

the problem is that i am unable to receive faxes, the modem stands on auto pick up, if i set it on 2 rings the fax services crashed and needs to be restarted, when i set it on 4 rings the services will not crash but the fax will not be received.

So to figure out the modem was defect (it works on the 2008 server) I treid to send a fax, that works without any problems.

I also treid it with another fax software called GFI, the funny thing is that with GFI and the exact same settings (rings, modem speed, FIFO buffer on) I receive the faxes.

I have got a few event ID's like 32109 and 32092, searched on the internet treid everything (turning of FIFO, set modem speeds lower, adjusted the rings form 1 to 8, other modem (same Model))

Called with the company of the modem and their technical support said that there where no known issues with server 2012 and the fax role.

I even reinstalled the whole server and the Fax role, just to be sure I did not make any mistake, has anyone an idea to solve this or what I can try?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

Stefan van der Ploeg
