Win 8 and 8.1 client showing shared printer server as offline

Hi,

we have a problem with our print environment (HP and Ricoh printers).

We have some Windows 8 and 8.1 clients and a Windows Server 2008 R2 printserver.

Windows 8 and 8.1 is showing the printers as offline. Its seems the problem described here ->http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2713128

We already installed the fix on the server but this didn't resolve the issue.

Maybe somebody have the same issues and an alternate solution for this?

Best regards

Slow printing / printer properties

I have two VMs both Server 2012R2. One of them shares printers with no problem.

The other shares printers - however on the clients printing is slow and the printer properties takes 60secs or more to appear.

Both are on different hosts and are unstressed. The good one is a gen1 VM and is our file server, the other gen2 and just runs WSUS at the moment. I am setting up the same printers using the same drivers.

I'm struggling to see what the difference is between them - any advice would be much appreciated.

Printer connections GPO missing in windows 2012 r2.

I have a windows server 2012 r2 dc, running with a windows 2012 r2 file/print server.

printers are mapped correctly with GPO, however this is a new server that replaced a windows 2003 dc/fp.

on the old server someone edited the "default domain policy" (don't get me started on that) and added printers via the printers connections gpo.  Now in the new server 2012 environment those gpos have been brought over and i cant get rid of the printers.

see attached image for printers i want to remove.

however when i edit the default domain policy, that connection is no longer there. i cant edit it.  arrrrhhggghgh.

the "Printer connections" are missing.

now of course everytime a user tries to delete these printers they get "access is denied", and its driving them and me nuts.

any thoughts?

Cheers,

Todd.

Driver install semi fails with 800f024b

Server:
Windows 2008 R2 SP1 + current windows updates.
Xerox GPD PS 5.303.16.0

Clients:
Windows 7 x64 SP1 + current windows updates
Windows XP SP3
GPO with Point and Print restrictions enabled.
Users utilize Point and Print.

Problem:

Was examining a client's PrintService/Admin event logs and noticed some reoccurring entries stating the Xerox global print driver failed to install due to invalid signature, Error code=800f024b.   Upon checking the actual .dll versions present in \\PCNAME\c$\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3\, they DID match the version on the print server.  Odd why Windows would then be complaining about a failed driver install?

Other vendors UPDs (HP, Ricoh, etc) have not logged this error. The Xerox UPD is PackageAware.

Checking the contents of \\PRINTSERVER\print$\x64\PCC\ntprint.inf_amd64_neutral_e758378b95b6b97a.cab, it's just the PostScript and ntprint.inf files. There is nothing related to Xerox.  Odd.

Digging into \\PCNAME\c$\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log, one finds more details about the exact failure is due to'UNIRES.DLL'.

I can only find really old versions of Winerror.exe and err.exe, neither which contain 0x800F024B SPAPI_E_FILE_HASH_NOT_IN_CATALOG; where does one find updated versions of these tools? Or is there a better location to translate error codes these days?

Why doesn't ntprint.cat contain the correct hash for UNIRES.DLL?

Push default printer settings from server - setprinter.exe ?

$

Hi,

I need to push out some new default printer settings (mono and duplex) for 300 printers across about 12 x 2003/2008 print servers.  All of these devices are already mapped by around 2500 WinXP/7 users, so reconnecting the devices for everybody is not an option, nor is redeploying via GPO.  I've read the following thread, which appears to explain what I need to do:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverprint/thread/a0a9bb3f-db24-417d-9905-c310d068d3c6/

Firstly, I need the latest version of setprinter.exe, as the one I've got is date stamped April 2003, which I assume is the one that fails to work with devmode 9.  Does anybody know where I can get this from?

Secondly, I think it says that the clients will periodically update themselves with the server's default settings.  This is perfect, if correct.  However, would anybody please be able to explain when these periodic updates take place?

Many thanks in advance !

Andy

Toshiba Printer Install on 2012 Standard

Hi all, I am trying to install Toshiba e-Studio 356 printer as a network print. The OS is 2012 Standard and the Network Printer Installation wizard in Print Management keeps giving me the following error:

"Unable to install printer.

There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper."   It appears that the driver installs but not the printer.  Any ideas?

Print server migration (32 bit 2003 R2 to 64 bit 2012 R2)

I have a 32 bit 2003 R2 print server, I need to migrate all the printers, drivers, etc to the new 64bit 2012 R2 print server. I have the role installed on the 2012 server, What I have done/ looked into.

I ran the migration wizard from 2012 R2 and it did not work (only migrated 5 printers which is not close to what we have).

Microsoft Print Migrator 3.1, will not work due to the 64bit incompatibility. Printbrm.exe command line tool may work but I have not found any examples of how to utilize it.

Basically I am looking for a straight step-by-step process of how to do this with little administrative action as possible.

File Server DR Strategy with DFS Replication data.

$

0

Below is the existing Setup:

Configured File and Print Servers (Windows Server 2008R2 Standard Sp1 - Physical) in 5 Branch locations.

Server Names: AFS1, BFS2, CFS3, DFS4, EFS5.

No backups configured for the Branch Location file servers, instead configured a DFSR replication to Central Hub Servers (Windows Server 2008R2 Standard Sp1 - VMs). This hub servers are two and configured with Failover Clustering file Servers and attached 20 TB Storage.

Users will access the data directly on the Branch location File Servers and will do the modifications, these branch File server's data will be replicating to Central Hub Clustered servers using the DFSR Replication after the business hours.

Backup will be performed on Hub Servers on daily basis using the backup tool called EMC Networker.

The idea behind, in case of data deleted or file server crashed in the Branch Locations, data can be recovered from two locations, one is Central Hub Server’s storage and Second one from backup tapes.

How the data shared: Under “F” drive, created a Top Folder called A (Branch Name) and under “A” folder, created the Share folders to users with required Shared and NTFS permissions. Data type is group data.

Configured DFSR Replication to replicate “A” folder data to Central Hub Storage server’s drive “T” under this path T\AFS1\A. AFS1 is only having the group date and other branch servers are having the User home folders data as well.  All these 5 File Servers data is replicating to T Drive, using same method as AFS1 server.

We are currently working on implementing a DR strategy as below manner.

Let’s say, the branch location file server completely crashed and data wiped, in this scenario, will build a base server with Window Server 2008R2, install the file and Print services. Copying the data from Central Hub Drives. Configuring the permissions.

So far good,

But, when we compare the permissions, share permission are not replicated to T Drive on Central Hub Server, NTFS permissions replicated exactly from the Branch File server along with additional permissions, i.e. Creator Owner with Special permissions, these permissions seems to be inherited from the T Drive default security permissions.

Removing the Creator Owner permission from T drive default permissions will cause for any permissions issue. Please guide me.

Hello all,

We have 2 different domains with their own printer servers. All are running Server2008R2x64 and here is what we are seeing:

All the machines have the same base image being Win7x64 Enterprise. We have approx. 600 computers total

One domain is called ABC had the Print server initially with HP Universal Drivers 5.4 PCL that were upgrade to 5.5 PCL
This domain suffer from the random unable to print Event 372 issue with  the the error of 5 Access Denied. Were get random calls about the inability to print and most of the calls tend to be on a Monday.

The other Domain is called DEF has 3 Print Servers. Two of the Print severs are in the USA and one is in LDN. The two PS in the states originally were configured with HP universal Drivers 5.4 PCL and both were upgraded to 5.5 We get calls from users of these 2 print servers ever single day. Aproxximately 5 a day complaining that they cant print.

Built a brand new SVR2008r2x64 server with only HP universal 5.7 PCL and added only 20 machines of known people whose machines were having printing issues. We have purged out all the old drivers and their settings etc with the registry changes shown below. Even on a brand new PS with the HP 5.7 drivers added initially we see the same printing error  Event 372 Access Denied 5......

The LDN PS that only the London users connect to for printing is still using 5.4 pcl and hasnt been upgrade. These users have NEVER had a client lose their ability to print. They are in good shape.

We have  Lumension Sanctuary Device control on all our machines. I use to believe that this was the culprit in such a way that is was too restricted on the machines but if it was all the machines would suffer and not simply a random handful which is the case for us.

This is the script we run on machine that are afflicted. Even doing this doesn't prevent the same machine from becoming a victim again.

FYI the last 2 lines of the regkey  are added as of today per the new thread so I can't confirm if the LOADTRUSTEDDRIVERS and TRUSTEDDRIVERPATH work or don't work for us. I will update as i get more info.

Windows 7 x64 can't read/install any printer drivers from Windows Server 2003 x64 (AMD64 folder and HP Deskjet 855c)

$

I read the thread Widows 7 printer HP deskjet 855c driver about possible installation of HP855c drivers onto Windows 7 x64 from "Windows Server 2003 x64" CD but I didn't have enough luck to succeed with doing it on my laptop. That thread appears to be dead now as it is marked "Answered", so I'm asking for help here. I have Toshiba Satellite P500 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (http://i55.tinypic.com/2zgth6v.jpg).

Let me tell you first that I don't have access to Windows Server 2003 x64 or XP Pro 64 CD's. However I did some research online, which eventually forced me to learn about the "file sharing". After extensive search I was able to get the copies of AMD64 folders from Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 with SP2 andXP Pro 64. The reason that I went also after XP Pro was because I thought that the extra wording "R2 Standard x64 with SP2" in description of "Windows Server 2003" did not reflect the exact name provided by poster Alan. I couldn't find just "Windows Server 2003 x64" (does it matter?).

Anyway, I followed first the drill with running "printui /s /t2" and disabling UAC, and then in both cases I was able to locate theNTPRINT.INF file (http://oi51.tinypic.com/9qwvt2.jpg - this image is from XP Pro AMD64 folder) but each time when I attempted to install the driver, I got the same message stating:

"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software drive for your device. If the folder contains the driver, make sure it's designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems." (http://oi53.tinypic.com/27yveiw.jpg)

Why aren't there x64 drivers?

During several installation attempts I had the printer connected to or disconnected from my laptop. It didn't make any difference. I must add that for this purpose I had to use different cable than the original one designated only for the Parallel port in my old desktop with Windows XP. My new laptop with Windows 7 x64 came only with 3 USB ports (plus 1 HDMI and 1 Serial). Because of that situation I bought in advance a new printer cable called “USB to 36-pin Parallel Port Adapter Cable” (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003A8I75E). I'm not sure, if it will work until I can install the printer. Besides, nobody talked about this issue yet. I was also playing with the port choices in "Add printer" step; changing from default LPT1 to USB001 with the same negative results.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I was very hopeful after reading positive "case closed" notes there. Can anyone help me here, maybe by making the necessary files available for download? I'm willing to pay for such assistance or make a donation, if necessary. Seriously. Judging by the large number of views of the original thread, one could assume that there is a potential demand for such service. It would be more human to pay few bucks for a few driver files than $900 for the whole Windows Server 2003 x64 CD, no? Can Microsoft accomodate me/us, please? :)

Andrew*

P.S. I was advised to come for help here from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/windows-7-x64-cant-readinstall-any-printer-drivers/4e7d06e1-33a5-4597-be70-4fdc087a63a7?msgId=9a045994-0d31-4d40-b17d-dba372393ee4

Printer defaults not propogating down to clients

I've set up a copy of server 08 r2 as a print server for my organization. It is currently managing the print jobs for 5 printers, all Ricoh/Lanier. When I set up printer defaults like two-sided black and white the defaults do not show up on the print properties page for clients. I've replaced the driver by Ricoh/Laniers recommendation but the settings still do not apply to the clients. Any thoughts on how to force the settings out to desktop clients?

cannot add domain printer in Windows Server 2008 R2 / "Windows cannot connect to the printer." / Error 0x00000002

I have

1. DOMAIN-SERVER: Windows Server 2012 R2 64bit Domain

2. PRINTER-SERVER: Windows Server 2012 R2 64bit  Print Server joined to domain

3. DOMAIN-PRINTERS: 4 Printers on the Print Server (all of them happen to be Brother Laser printers, running generic built-in Windows Server 2012 drivers)

4. REMOTE-SERVER: Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit Remote Desktop Session Host joined to domain (Running Citrix XenApp Fundamentals)

I am trying to add the domain printers to my Windows Server 2008 R2 box.

1. Start -> Control Panel -> Devices and Printers

2. Add a printer -> Add a network printer

3. All four printers are discovered very quickly and show ON PRINTER-SERVER

4. I click "Next" to add a printer

5. Dialog window shows: "Looking for a driver" / "Downloading the driver" / "Finishing the installation"

6. Error window then pops up before finishing:

Connect to Printer
Windows cannot connect to the printer.
Operation failed with error 0x00000002

7. Of the four printers, one of them gives me error 0x00004005 instead

8. I used Process Monitor to try and figure out what might be happening, but there are way too many entries for me to figure out exactly where the problem is.  Out of 33,000 lines produced during just one attempt to add a printer, the vast majority show success, but I still have about 6,500 lines showing BUFFER OVERFLOW, FILE LOCKED WITH ONLY READERS, NAME COLLISION, NAME NOT FOUND, NO MORE ENTRIES, NO MORE FILES, NO SUCH FILE, PATH NOT FOUND, and REPARSE

Which of those 6,500 lines could give me the clue to solve this problem?  No idea

UPD not replicating to client pc but Model Specific Is ??

I have been researching this issue for quite some time and have not found a solution yet.

I have a customer that has various RICOH MFD's in their fleet and decided to use the UDP 4.6 to make it easier.

That initial installation went fine.  They later received a directive to change a default settings to Duplex.  That is when the issue came. When they made a change on the server and then pushed out the change nothing happened on the other end.

We conducted 3 tests on a sandbox server.

1. Ricoh UDP - replication of custom settings failed.

2. HP UDP - replication of custom settings failed.

3. Ricoh Model Specific Driver- Replication of successful.

My question is what is the difference between the two types that prohibits the UDP from replicating what is on the print server?

We have a Windows Server 2008 R2 running as a Print Server.

Several times a day Print Spooler Service stops own its own. I am not sure wheather
this is caused by a faulty print driver or something else.

How can I troubleshoot the root cause.
Is there a tool that I can use to diagnose the issue.

Following are the make and model of 16 to 20 printers shared on the Print Server.

Dell Dell 3130CN Laser Printer
Dell Dell 5230n Laser Printer
Samsung SCX-6545
Kyocera CS-4050 KX
