Print server restoration
Hi techies,
I am planning for Print migration in my environment, the requirement is
Migration of Printers from windows server 2003 R2 (*64)to windows server 2012
Nearly 40 HP printers with different drivers, names and security settings are taken backup using Print brm tool from server and to be restored in server 2012.
So now I have two questions
1. Will this all printer get restored in Server 2012 with drivers and IP settings and works ?
2. Current users using the printers installed from the windows server 2003(OldPrint server ) will also be able to use the same without any errors after the printers are migrated to windows 2012 R2 (New Print server)?
Or What should be followed to restore the printers without forcing the current users to face any errors or re-install after the printer migration is done ?
Its a critical requirement.. Please advice
thanks and regards

Print drivers on windows 7 clients missing dependent files..?
Hello All,
I am having a strange issue with a handful of our windows 7 clients.
What we have:
Recently I have setup a new 2008 R2 x64 server to hosts the printers in our school district. I have tried to keep things simple by using global print drivers that are available. I only have the lastest hp global driver, the lastest xerox global driver, a dell printer driver, and a minolta driver. All of out client machines are running windows 7 enterprise and are both x64 and x86.
The Problem:
A handful of windows 7 machines seem to be missing the dependent files that should be listed under the properties of the driver in "print server properties". It has happened on x64 and x86 clients and pretty much prevents the clients from using any functionality of the printer they are connected to. At first I thought it may have been a xerox driver issue, but after seeing the issue on a few hp printers I am thinking its a problem with point and print somewhere? Any information that may help us resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your support! :D
Entering server name at desktop does not display printer shares
From the server (2008r2) I am able to open windows explorer, enter the server name and see shares including the shared printers. From the desktop (win 7) it fails with "you might not have permission to use this network resource"
Definitely sounds like permissions but where? Any ideas?

I run printer backup printbrm.exe at Win2008 r2 and I have this error "The following error occurred: 0x80070002. The system cannot find the file specified."
I have the printmanagemet feature runs at win2008 r2 server. when I run "printbrm.exe -b -s printserver -f filename.printerexport" to backup the printers from a remote printer server which it is a Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2 server. I received this error "The following error occurred: 0x80070002. The system cannot find the file specified." it asked to check the eventlog for detailed information about the error which occurred. but when I check the Printer Migration Events log, there is no errors. All the EventID are 70 or 56 and 10.
This error appeared after all the print queues, print processor and printer drivers were saved completely.
Some of the printers have the page separator configured. This printer server host about 800 network printers.
Another question, all the RAW ports don't have the Port Monitor Name, TCPMON.DLL. So can the printmbr.exe export/import the RAW type of print port?

So the job looks like it is spooling but then next action is the document being deleted. I would normally see the event 307 from the PrintService which says Printing a Document. Can anybody tell me why the document is being deleted instead of printed? The client machine is Windows XP SP3 and the print server is Windows Server 2012 R2. Thanks for any help.
Address column of renamed printer still contains old info
Today I renamed a printer on our network. Along with renaming the device I also deleted the text in the Location field and updated the share name. However the old info still appears to users in the "Address" column of the Add Printer windows when adding the device to their laptops.
How do I remove this old info?

Printer Jobs Causing slowness
On specific day, lets say Thursday the network goes slow because of all the printing.
I would like to get an audit of Printer files done on that day and spooler sizes,
Any ideas how this is best achieved on a Windows 2008 R2 Server
The From, To, and Subject line are blank for received faxes.
Windows Server 2012 R2 and RedMon + GhostScript
Hi guys,
I need to know where I wrong.
In Windows Server 2012 R2 I installed RedMon and Ghostscript.
Then I tryed to creare a printer with new RedMon post, I used a HP 4550 PS Driver.
but when I confirm a creation, it shows me an error "Unable to install printer. Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network".
But.... I have not a printer!!!
What can I do?
spoolsv.exe on printserver hung from time to time
Hello,
I have following Scenario:
One terminal server session host running Windows Server 2008R2. On the TS are about 30 users logged in. One print server running Windows Server 2008R2. On the print server are a couple of Lexmark Printers installed. The newest universal post script Printer
Driver from Lexmark is used. All users on the TS have mapped the Printers from the print server.
My Problem is:
Approximately 2-3 times per week user complain that nothing will be printed out. When I check the Task Manager on the print server I see that the spoolsv.exe is constantly consuming between 30 -50 % CPU. When use process Explorer to identify the threads for
the high CPU usage of spoolsv.exe, I see 2-3 threads with the start address "LMUD1NLANG.DLL!initializePrintMonitor1+0xaed00". These threads share the most CPU usage of spoolsv.exe. When i kill these threads all missing print Jobs will be printed
out immediately.
I’m very clueless about this Problem. Does anybody have an idea or even had this Problem before?
Many thanks in advance for your answers.
TWAIN Isse on Server 2012 R2
I have a customer that I migrated to Win Server 2012 R2 as an RDS for their company's Quickbooks (as well as a few other things)
The issue is that Quickbooks cannot see the TWAIN yet it has been installed. At least that what the installer says.
Now what's funny is that the administrator account could use it. none of the User accounts could. So naturally as a test I made everyone ADMINS.
But that didn't work.
Any ideas or something I may have missed?
Thanks!
Print Manager On Print Server - Printers List Blank
Hello,
Having a strange issue where my print server has recently stopped showing the printers in the Print Manager.
If I connect print manager to another print server, I don't see any printers on the other server either. Can see all the ports, drivers, forms and from what I have read those three items render back to Print Manager differently than printers themselves.
restarting the spooler has no impact, server reboot doesn't affect it either.
no firewall enabled.
I can access the shared printers on the server, and click view remote printers to get that special printer share path on the server just fine.
I can view and manage the printers from another client using Print Manager and see everything.
have flushed DNS and tried again with no success.
tried adding print server via FQDN, IP and same result.
On the plus side, so far no interruption in print service to users as it appears to just be cosmetic management issue which is super frustrating.
Server is fully patched.
Any ideas?
Push default printer settings from server - setprinter.exe ?
Hi,
I need to push out some new default printer settings (mono and duplex) for 300 printers across about 12 x 2003/2008 print servers. All of these devices are already mapped by around 2500 WinXP/7 users, so reconnecting the devices for everybody is not an option, nor is redeploying via GPO. I've read the following thread, which appears to explain what I need to do:
Firstly, I need the latest version of setprinter.exe, as the one I've got is date stamped April 2003, which I assume is the one that fails to work with devmode 9. Does anybody know where I can get this from?
Secondly, I think it says that the clients will periodically update themselves with the server's default settings. This is perfect, if correct. However, would anybody please be able to explain when these periodic updates take place?
Many thanks in advance !

Printer Port switching from Standard TCP/IP to Remote Print Port on non-domain joined workstations
We have a Windows Server 2008R2 Active Directory domain. Workstations on our network are both domain joined and non domain joined. We have a domain joined print server\\printserver1 (Windows Server 2008 R2) with some shared printers. We are noticing that if a domain user on a non domain joined machine maps/connects (using their domain credentials) to a shared printer on\\printserver1 they would print fine but after a while the printer port on the printer changes from standard tcp/ip to remote print port. I cannot edit or configure this port, keep getting a print server error. The workaround is the delete the entire printer from the workstation and reconnect to it. This is not isolated to any specific printer but is isolated to the non domain joined workstations.
Any advice on this problem would be appreciated. thanks.
Installing x64 (additional drivers) for shared x86 print server on 2003 Server x86 sp2 (Help please):
I'm trying to add x64 under additional drivers for our existing 32bit printer shares on x86 2003 Server sp2...
If i try to add x64 drivers for say, laserjet 2200, I browse out to the x64 2003 CD for the inf file under AMD64.. it then prompts stating: "the specified location does not contain the driver HP LaserJect 2200 Series PCL 6 for the requested processor architecture".
I tried this same routine for our Phaser 6250DP printer, if I browse to the x64 folder, where we have the specific x64 drivers for it, I get the error "selected driver must be installed remotely".
Is it not possible to install an x64 version of a printer driver on a x86 server (not itanium)?
Thanks
